The Program

Based on a validated mentorship model, the program gives Danish medical students from University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, Aalborg University, and the University of Southern Denmark international experience, comprehensive clinical research training, and a highly supportive infrastructure enabling students to accomplish their research and career goals.

The program offers formalized clinical research training for Danish medical students in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they are closely mentored by internationally recognized clinical researchers at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and Stanford University.

In addition to mentoring of individual students, the program aims to create enduring international teaching and research collaborations between participating institutions, taking advantage of the relative strengths of each. Renowned for extensive patient registries, cohorts, and population-based studies, the participating Danish institutions are ideal partners to help advance the cutting-edge, broad portfolio of research and clinical expertise at two Bay Area medical centers.

The Research Project

During the program, each fellow completes one or more closely mentored clinical research projects at UCSF or Stanford, receives small-group teaching in the responsible conduct of research, clinical study design, biostatistics, epidemiology, research presentation, and manuscript writing, and submits a first-author manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal. In addition to the formal lecture program, the Academic Director meets twice monthly with individual students to review goals and progress. Fellows also meet with internationally recognized senior clinical researchers for small-group career mentoring.

The academic director will be intimately involved in all projects from design to publication to ensure continuity in the curriculum and successful project completion.
